zephroar: (Girl Reading)
The first of July is literally tomorrow and as such I've decided that I wanted to do a TBR in the hopes to downsize the amount of books that are on my physical shelves or that I've gotten from the library. To make things easier for myself, I'll separate the books into two separate categories: Owned and Library.

There are some books that I know for sure I want physical copies of, these books will have an asterisk before the book title. I am enjoying my time with these books so much that I know I want them in my personal collection, but for now I have to save money for a new bookcase since one of my larger bookcases is starting to fall apart due to age. I've had this bookcase since I was fifteen years old and it's definitely survived quite a few moves since I first started university.

So without further ado, let's get to this month's TBR. I definitely hope to finish the books I am currently reading this month so those are top priority.

Book Haul

Last Monday was a day where I had a bit of extra time on my hands and I made the decision to stop in at a local secondhand bookshop to browse their shelves. I used to stop in at this book store every Saturday to see what they had and usually came away with a few books that were added to my personal library. A few months ago I made the choice to see how much money I can save if I were to cut unnecessary expenses, including the amount I was spending on books.

It was difficult to restrain myself from buying a lot more books, but I did get a bit of a haul. Most of them are classics. I've been trying to stay away from classic literature since I've got way too many of them on my shelves and I am worried that my reading tastes may be changing. However, I always go to the classics section of secondhand bookstores because it's now a habit of mine. Since there needs to be some organisation here, I will be separating books in categories.

With the secondhand bookshop I went to, I had a lot of book credits since I regularly unhaul books and bring them there in exchange for credit so I got a few of these books via that credit.

Wow, so I've been gone from Dreamwidth for so long that coming back here to a semi-abandoned and messy account has caused me a lot more stress than it should. There's not much to say that hasn't been said on my AO3 and FFN profiles. I'm still struggling with mental health and other real life issues that have made it nearly impossible to focus on writing- or more specifically, writing to the best of my capabilities since I've been writing and not posting. Mostly, it's me rewriting the same chapter over and over again because I just can't be happy with anything I have written.

Honestly, it's been an endless cycle of me writing out entire chapters only to go back and rewrite those chapters entirely. Sometimes, I can't even write at all and I don't know what's worse for me- not writing or rewriting chapters I've already thought were perfect enough. Maybe it's a tie between the two?

What I have planned right now is cleaning up this blog a bit since it's a bit messy and not at all up to date. I want to start posting more regularly and wish to do more bookish content as well as doing the fic stuff.

However, I am also going to post an update on what I have been working on in terms of my stories. I hope that by making this post public that I will finally be able to trick my brain into revealing these stories. At least one of these stories has been posted to my private collection on AO3 and is just waiting for me to 'reveal it'. The only problem is that these stories are not finished and would be WIPs, but I feel that if I only post one at a time that I'd be able to really focus on the story and be happier for it.
  1. Operation: Chaos- This is the prequel to Lethe (or Operation: Lethe) depending upon when you have found my fic. The story has been made private on my AO3 account since I felt unhappy with how I was raising more questions than answering them. Chaos is going to get into more of the background information that was missing in Lethe- including more on The Phantom, the original spy team that had been working on bringing the villain to justice for their decade long crime spree, and will focus on the mission and what happened leading to the events that Lethe starts off with.
  2. The Ghosts of Sedley House- This has been a work in progress for at least a year. I am not sure when the idea first came to my mind to write a classic ghost story for The Amazing Spiez fandom, but I am happy it came to me because I've had a lot of fun planning it and writing out the first few chapters. It's going to be a smaller story in comparison to my other stories in the fandom, but it does have an exciting plot and has the classic ghost story vibe. I may or may not have been inspired by 'The Woman in Black' for this, but honestly, I'm not complaining.
  3. A oneshot collection/series for Rogue Agent- these stories are just going to be a companion to Rogue Agent. Everyone reading the story has noticed that the fic is Marc centric which means that we see his thoughts, his feelings, and see how he acts to certain situations- while it is a complete mystery what his siblings get up to. The oneshot collection is going to remedy this by having little stories centred on Lee, Megan and Tony- and what they get up to while Marc is forced to focus on healing from his trauma/head injury.
  4. The Case of the Golden Falcon- This story is in response to a writing challenge on AO3 and is going to be part one of a three part series that surrounds solving a mystery and bringing a well known criminal to justice. It's meant to be fun and a way to relieve stress... but, all the rewrites of the first chapter say otherwise.
Current Projects: This is a list of WIPs that are currently up on FFN. I haven't updated in months, but this is going to change (hopefully) very soon.
  1. Mission: Rogue Agent- I am currently rewriting Chapter Two. There's Twenty One chapters planned, including an epilogue, but I've had to stop writing due to how dark the fic is. I am currently writing out Chapter Nine but the primary focus is on cleaning up the chapters and ensuring that the writing matches what I have in current chapters.
  2. The Curse of Sekhmet- I have gone back to the drawing board with the planning of this story. I do know what I want with it, but it's just the writing that is the issue.

Title: Mission: Rogue Agent
Characters: Lee Clark, Megan Clark, Marc Clark, Tony Clark, Jerry Lewis, original male and female characters
Rating: PG-13
Content: Canon- Typical Violence, mission fic, protective siblings, mental health and poor coping mechanisms, trauma, referenced PTSD, hurt/comfort, angst, drama, spies and espionage, largely canon compliant, slow build (plot)
Summary: A rogue agent causes problems for the Spiez. However, the Clarks find that the stakes are higher than ever when Marc is specifically targeted by a villain that will stop at nothing to get what they want... no matter the cost.
Author's Notes: Timeline- This story is set after the three part episodes featuring Alpha and Omega in the first season (Mission: Jumeaux du chaos) when I feel that Marc is at his most vulnerable in the aftermath of dealing with something so traumatic, but before the events of Mission: Yo-yo ninja star.

I decided that I wanted to create this journal mostly as a way to help keep track of my writing and to participate in any prompt challenges that made the move from LiveJournal to Dreamwidth. However, I also want to participate in any fandom related communities as well.

I have a lot of interests that I divide my time with, especially in terms of writing. For right now, I am only interested in writing for the Amazing Spiez! fandom, but do read in other fandoms like Totally Spies and Sherlock Holmes. I love British detective series like Midsomer Murders and Endeavour, but have not written anything for these.

I adore literature and am a voracious reader. These days, I am a mood reader- so the books I pick up and enjoy are usually dependent upon that, but I love classic literature, detective/murder mysteries, historical fiction, and anything to do with Sherlock Holmes. I also love Harry Potter, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, anything to do with Arthurian literature, and have a particular fondness for faerie tales and faerie tale retellings.

To be honest, I am not sure when I am going to start posting more stories in other fandoms, but I do have ideas that I do want to explore. However, for right now, I enjoy writing in the Amazing Spiez! fandom. I know that it is a small fandom, but I do hope to meet people that do like the cartoon as it would be nice to meet fans both old and new. However, if not, then I will just continue writing quietly for it because I do love exploring the characters and writing about them.
